There are only two styles in portrait painting, the serious and the smiling; and we use the serious one for people who have a profession (except sometimes for actors) and the smiling one for ladies and gentlemen who don’t care so much about having an air of wisdom.

When Kim reached out, she said something like: “We’re spending a few weeks in Tuscany with the whole family — grandparents, cousins, all of us together. We’re from New York, and we’d love some photos to remember it.”
And just like that, one day I found myself in a beautiful villa nestled in the hills, surrounded by that kind of Tuscan silence with cicadas, wind, and summer. The whole place looked like it came straight out of a postcard. It was a great way to freeze moments where everyone was relaxed, sun-kissed, and simply enjoying being together.
So here they are: portraits somewhere between serious and smiling, but mostly just real.
